Top(shop) Brides

June 6, 2012 § Leave a comment

All the fashion lovers on budget, who live and breath designer and high street collaborations and are about to walk down the aisle as a bride or a bridesmaid – this is your moment to rise from your chair/sofa and rapidly jump up and down making hysterical noises aka celebrate new bridal range created by Richard Nicoll for Topshop. And after you settle back down here is all you need to know about the wonderful collaboration.

At the end of June the collection called ‘Tie The Knot’ will be available online and in the selected stores. This is 6th collaboration of the designer with our favourite high street brand and it is once again predicted to be a massive success: not just because the brides-to-be will be hitting the stores but they will be joined by other fashion lovers wanting to get a piece of high fashion for affordable price. And what can you expect from the designs themselves? Simplicity and femininity in blush pink and classic white, lots of lace and see-through light chiffon as seen on the sneak-peak pictures below.

The only downside is that the gowns are made for a very specific bride: fashion forward lady not looking for a classical wedding in the church but picking city, beach or garden backdrop.  So for example I would choose a non-white piece from a collection if I was going to a wedding as a guest or dressing my own bridesmaids or go for a white style for other special occasions (when the colour would not be clashing with bride’s dress, of course) but not for my own wedding as it just does not go with my mental image of what I wanted my dress to be, which is, no office, a bit more special. Nevertheless I am sure there are hundreds of girls out there who are dying to get there hands on the collection to wear on their special day thanks to affordable pricing and high fashion designs.

Here are the prices for the dresses above, according to Vogue.com:

  1. £200
  2. £350
  3. £170
  4. £170

The Ragged Priest

May 21, 2012 § Leave a comment

Close your eyes and imagine what really cool urban fashion looks like right now. (Now open them and carry on reading.) Nowadays the coolest items out there are covered in studs, are pastel, have a bit of dip/tie dye thing going on and are either cropped or totally oversized (perfect length and fit are so not in). And surprise surprise there is just the brand that this season has put all of those elements together and created the most perfect on trend denim collection ever. Meet The Ragged Priest.

I noticed the brand last season – wool jumpers patched up with studded leather, dark colours and a lot of denim looked interesting. But it was not until a few months ago, once revealing S/S12 collection Ragged Priest exploded – all the cool girls in town are wearing it and our favourite celebrity crushes are promoting the brand world wide (think about studded pieces Rihanna and Jessy J wore recently and chances are they were created by this brand).

But the coolness does not stop there – each piece starts off as a vintage items that is transformed to its new look (you can so steal some of the creative ideas for DIY fashion) making the exact size/colour/pattern more or less unique. And the prices are totally cool as well – completely in the high street range despite being way cooler (pardon my slight obsession with how cool this brand is).

So if you like my picks, check out the whole range at their online boutique1. Candy Striper Shirt, £45
2. Albino Sweatshirt Crop, £45
3. Bon Bon Gilet, £65
4. Gnarly Denim Jacket, £90

5. Limited Edition Shorts, £95
6. Toxic Waste Shorts, £40
7. Apple Jack Shorts, £65

Bikini Season – Sorted!

May 9, 2012 § Leave a comment

Walking down the street in London one afternoon my attention was drawn to double-decker red bus that was covered in bright and colourful posters of beautifully shot swimwear campaign. On the closer look I was surprised that the brand advertised was not luxurious Tara Matthews or Melissa Odabash, it was H&M.

In the recent years, possibly changing to satisfy more picky economic depression influenced customer, H&M have been stepping up their game and the current campaign is another example of winner tactics that lures consumer into the stores. The range called Swimwear Sensation, is just that – sensational. Absolutely beautiful, luxuriously looking pieces are all available at the customary to H&M low prices making it easy to walk out of the store with a bikini set costing less than £20. One word of warning – from past experiences H&M swimsuits don’t usually last past one holiday, they simply loose shape, but then again at those prices you should not be expecting more, plus I’m all up for changing swimsuit collection after every holiday!

Here are my favourite picks: top 3 look great in a matching set, but bottom 3 look more exciting if mixed and matched and include an accessory or two. Visit online store to view the whole range and the associated inspirational videos and pictures.

1. White and Grey Geometric Print Bikini Top £12.99 and Bottoms £7.99
2. Marble Effect Bikini Top £12.99 and Bottoms £7.99
3. Golden Beige Bikini Top £9.99 and Bottoms £7.99

4. Fashion Against Aids Necklace £9.99, Bikini Top £9.99 and Bottoms £7.99
5. Ten Pack Bracelet £3.99, Bikini Top £9.99 and Bottoms £3.99
6. Hair Clip £1.99, Bikini Top £9.99 and Bottoms £7.99

We Dream of Ice Cream

May 7, 2012 § Leave a comment

Maybe its just a logical continuation of a massive pastel trend or maybe it is an interesting micro trend on its own. Whatever the case, fashion developed quite a liking for ice cream recently! Mulberry S/S12 campaign set (seen above) was covered in ice cream while Louis Vuitton campaign featured models indulging in frozen sundaes. But ice cream being used as a prop is not the end of the obsession – ice cream prints, embellishments and even ice cream shaped jewellery can all be found both on high street and in designer boutiques. And the main two players in the game are Mulberry and Topshop, each providing us with a choice of ice cream themed items at various price points so you can get your hands on the yummy goodies whatever your budget. Below are my delicious picks from both brands.

  1. Topshop Crop Sweat, £24 – love the cropped length – exposed midriffs is a trend on its own!
  2. Mulberry Grey Marl Vest,  £100 – so multifunctional, I’d wear it with jeans on the weekend and add to a work skirt and jacket combo for more casual look (for those who don’t have super smart work places of course).
  3. Topshop Printed Slit Back Shirt, £32 – possibly the cutest printed shirt of the season.
  4. Mulberry White Vest, £100 – white version of my beloved multifunctional vest.
  5. Mulberry Sunglasses and Ice Cream Necklace, £170 – barely visible but nevertheless there!
  6. Topshop Ice Cream Collar, £20 – silly statement necklace, perfect for adding eccentric feel to your look.
  7. Mulberry Pale Gold Metal Pin, £70 – it’s been a while since pins were at all fashionable but this one hits the nail on the head!
  8. Topshop Drop Earrings, £6.50 – perfect summer day accessory!

The IT Dress

May 1, 2012 § 1 Comment

There were once It bags, now there are It dresses. And this season it is Stella McCartney cut out dresses that have completely won over the fashion world and celebrities alike. Indeed the dress was chosen for Sienna Miller April cover of Vogue, and if the fashion bible gives their approval who are we to argue otherwise.

But what makes it so special you might ask? First of all I believe the right amount and position of cut outs, especially if they are artistically shaped like these ones, add massive sex appeal to the outfit without making it, well, slutty. And who does not want to be the right amount of sexy? Secondly the print clash is a hot trend this season and Stella has done here so well! And thirdly there are so many shape and colour possibilities (it’s more of an It dress range than an It dress per se) anyone can find just the right one to suit their shape.

And celebrities were quick to demonstrate all the possibilities – Rumer Willis wore it in maxi length, Gwyneth Paltrow chose an asymmetrical mini version, Brooklyn Decker graced London’s Battleship photo-call in a mini style (completely outshining her co-star Rihanna I must admit), Leann Rhymes and Nicole Kidman went for the burgundy print versions in different lengths while Miranda Kerr shined in all black edition. And I am sure those are not the only celebrities that will be seen wearing Spring/Summer 12 McCartney creations – sexy, figure hugging and oh-so-stylish – appearing in one of those guarantees the place on the best dressed list (maybe without the black batwing cardigan sported by Rumer).

The problem is, for most of us the dresses are completely unobtainable as they cost a few months rent (could not avoid the comparison, my idol Carrie Bradshaw always calculates rent payment equivalent for shoe prices). The ‘cheapest’ one I found is £2,195 with prices climbing by over 150% for the most expensive. (In case you are planning to purchase one I suggest possibly staying away from net-a-porter and choosing other online or brick and mortar retailers as the prices for the dresses are significantly higher there). Below are my online finds – as expected in all shapes and shades!

  1. £2,745 at mytheresa.com
  2. £3,645 at net-a-porter.com
  3. £3,225 at net-a-porter.com
  4. £2,195 at matchesfashion.com
  5. £2,865 at harveynichols.com

Guest Blogger: Alexandra Jacobs on Spring/Summer Hamptons Style

April 30, 2012 § Leave a comment

A travel enthusiast Alexandra writes about tourism, beaches, food and the wonderful things in the world. In this article she describes how Hamptons style serves as her fashion inspiration for the current season. Follow her at @alexsjourneys or visit her blog alexsjourneys.wordpress.com.

Fashion during the warm months is bright and cheerful, light and carefree. When inspiration for personal style is taken from a destination like the Hamptons, it is easy to transition from the cool, fresh weather of spring to the hot and sunny days of summer. Nautical inspired fashion is practical and comfortable, as easy to carry from day to night as to adjust for temperature changes. Though comfort is the main benefit, classy style takes center stage. When you are lounging in your hamptons home in the summer, this inspired look is relaxed, chic, timeless and easy to wear.

With an atmosphere of sea breezes, bright sunshine and casual elegance to inspire a wardrobe, the result is stunning, natural and effortless. Simplicity is predominant, from the cleanly cut shapes of each garment to the dramatic colors and minimal patterns to the crisp natural fabrics like linen, cotton and silk. The shape of each outfit is an important part of nautical fashion, with a clearly defined, graceful and flattering figure. The relaxed, classy style makes the clear simplicity interesting without lots of details, and relies and dramatic color to make statements. Pure white, all shades of ocean blues, bright red, crisp black, earthy sand colors are all favorites in nautical fashion. While patterns in general don’t play a big part, stripes in all sizes and pairings of colors are stunning. Natural fabrics paired with basic elemental accessories, like leather shoes and belts and brass jewelry is one of the main charms of the Hamptons style.

Every wardrobe style needs staple pieces. Hamptons fashion is no exception. A pair of tailored, dark jeans, sleek white trousers and a couple plain pencil skirts take care of the bottom half of the staple pieces. For on top, have some basic tailored blouses and tee shirts, especially in plain colors and stripes, cardigans to make those cold weather transitions easy, a striking, fitted blazer and a classic khaki trench coat. Top it off with a couple dresses for both daytime and evening, in plain white, chambray or elegant navy and unique, personal accessories. With this basic backbone for the wardrobe; an entire look can be created by mixing and matching pieces.

Making the change from spring to summer is easy. Wear blazers and cardigans with tee shirts, blouses and dresses until the heat arrives, and then leave them behind. Change up the accessories, and the transition is complete. A good trench coat is a must when vacationing by the water or simply traveling through spring. It provides warmth when cold wind hits and can be left behind when the sun comes out.

The skeleton of a nautical wardrobe is basic, working for both casual and dressy. Whether an outfit needs to be dressed up for a business meeting or for evening, small changes are all that are needed. Sandals, jeans, a striped tee and a blazer are perfect for running errands. To dress it up for dinner out with friends, change into pumps and white trousers and switch earrings. A morning at the beach can be spent in a long sundress and just slip on a pair of heels, nice jewelry and a fancy up-do for the evening. Hamptons inspired fashion is relaxed and eternally classy on every occasion.

Outfit inspirations are taken from A Cup Of Jo, Pinterest and Emerson Fry.

Cheryl’s Style

April 22, 2012 § 4 Comments

I’m slightly excited about Cheryl Cole’s return with her new album. Not because of the music she will be bringing out, but because she is coming back to spot light and I have indeed missed my favourite clothes horse. And that is compliment. Her petite figure and natural beauty allows her to pull off practically anything and makes me (and I am sure many more like me) lust after every single thing she wears.

Last week sneak peak shots of her new video flooded the web and I could not be happier with what she is wearing: mixing up patterns, tropical prints and neon – she is ticking every trend box. Indeed it did not take me long to find pieces she was wearing, and all the fans with money to spend can easily get their hands on the outfit at net-a-porter.com!

On the picture above she is dressed in Finch tropical-print cotton-blend blazer by Altuzarra(£1040), Dolce & Gabbana leopard-print high-wasted bikini briefs (£150) and Brian Atwood Alima neon patent-leather pumps (£670). So if you have £1860 lying around you can steal her style, something that does not happen often with stars in music videos who often get pieces designed just for them.

But of course I would not tempt you with high price items without providing an affordable alternative. I searched the high street for similar pieces and here they are: Topshop tropical floral blazer (£65), Motel high waist hot pants (£20 at Asos) and Office Krazy paving neon heels (£78). Grab an outfit inspire by Cheryl for more affordable £163!

The New Swimsuit

April 9, 2012 § Leave a comment

Happy Easter everyone! Have you been enjoying 4 days off? I definitely have been – getting together with friends, lounging around at home with my boyfriend, catching up on unseen films and favourite TV series and of course big Easter Sunday Roast (I was invited to attend, you would never see me making one myself, my kitchen skills are below average). And while I am in London for my 4 days off, some others managed to escape the city and head for far away beach destinations. Hence I was inspired to check out the hottest swimwear of the season and straight away went for my old favourite We Are Handsome, a brand famous for their photo-printed swimwear which appeared on my blog numerous times. And they did not disappoint – see my picks of one pieces below!

  1. £225
  2. £210
  3. £185
  4. £205

But not only did We Are Handsome not disappoint, they also started a trend for photo-printed swimwear after many celebrities including Rihanna were seen wearing their designs. Wildfox has a range of them now including a cat printed one piece, Topshop featured a few pieces online that will be available at the end of the month (exciting!) and finally ASOS providing items inspired by We Are Famous with an affordable price tag. Check out my selection of swimsuits from ASOS below and go on to their website to see many in bikini versions.

  1. Digital Beach Sean Cut Out Bandeau Suit, £40
  2. Palm Print Swimsuit, £35
  3. Cut Out Suit in Palm Print, was £40 now £32
  4. Palm Print Swimsuit, was £40 now £32

Mango Maxis

April 4, 2012 § Leave a comment

The spring has sprung. Hence it is time to find spring buys that can help once and for all leave the wintery outfits behind and recharge our wardrobes. This time I turn to Mango for help updating the skirt selection. I have spoken volumes about midi pleated skirts a few weeks ago (read more here) but it does not mean we have to wave goodbye to pleats of different lengths. Maxis are still full on trend this season so I found four perfect spring must-haves by Mango.

1 and 3 (£44.99) are perfect to add the pastel trend to your wardrobe – wear them by day with your favourite cotton tee or combine with complementing pastel colour silk tops and statement necklaces for totally fashionable evening wear.
2 (£39.99) is a total find – this is the rock chic solution to spring romanticism: black with leathery finish yet strangely feminine, you wont regret this buy.
4 (£49.99) has a denim feel to it yet is light and perfect even for the hottest day of the year – match with your favourite Converse or Superga trainers for a sporty feel.
