‘What’s On Your Fashion Wish List?’

February 14, 2012 § Leave a comment

That was exactly the question I asked all the participants of my give away of Daisy Jewellery Earrings (find more about the giveaway and the winner here). And the answers were so diverse and yet all so great that I had to share some of the items they picked with everyone. Having a varied price range from £35 to £4728 the entries go on to prove that it is not just hot designer items that we want – many are more affordable (hence the variation of prices of items I blog about on My Fashion Wish List). Thank you to all participants and congratulations to the lucky winner. Watch this space for more give aways!

New Fashion Sweetheart: Lana Del Rey

February 12, 2012 § 12 Comments

Bursting into music scene when her home made video for a melancholic song Video Games went viral on Youtube, Lana Del Rey has just as quickly gained popularity in the fashion world as in the music world. And while her songs and questionable authenticity is being debated all over the internet by music critics, there is nothing less than a complete acceptance of this lady in fashion industry. The song bird has already performed at Chateau Marmont in LA at Mulberry party, was flown to Beijing to do the same for Dior, signed a modelling contract and (drum roll please) appeared on the cover of British Vogue shot by one and only Mario Testino.

On the pictures and in her videos Lana looks every inch of the star she is about to become. And while her off duty look still need a few tweaks (Lana please drop those bomber jackets, they are only cute if you borrowed them from your boyfriend when you were too optimistic about the weather outside and not for daily wear) one thing she definitely got right is her hair style: she epitomises those soft retro waves seen all over spring/summer 2012 fashion runways!

And since I am simply in love with Lana’s Born to Die video, here are the items inspired by two of her outfits in the video. I will definitely be channeling half-hipster half-flower child look very soon (as soon as this Global Freeze currently positioned over London disappears, that is).

  11. Le Grana Greta Dress £160 available at notjustalabel.com

Model’s Own

February 10, 2012 § Leave a comment

Kate Moss designed for Topshop and Elle Macpherson has own range of lingerie – we no longer consider ex-top models turning into designers shocking. Indeed it is very fashionable now for any celebrity to be involved in fashion. There are success stories: think Victoria Beckham, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (two very-chic fashion lines The Row and Elizabeth and James) and of course Sienna Miller (and her sister’s Twenty8Twelve). But there are as many failures: Cheryl Cole designing  shoe collection with stylepick was one of them (read more here). And now, for the second consecutive season Claudia Schiffer has been working on her own line – Claudia Schiffer Cashmere.

It is far away from her glamourous modelling days, but that is the attraction of this collection – it is authentic to the real Claudia Schiffer and her current happy life as a wife and mother. The idea behind it is designing clothes for busy mothers that are pressed for time: a few minutes for getting dressed before making a school run is all a modern mother has and so she needs something easy to pull on, that can last all day with just small changes (of bag or accessories) and is soft and comfortable when you feel down about being up all night with the kids. And above all it is of top quality as Claudia is working with long established to produce the pieces. Here are my picks of super-comfortable yet stylish line:

  1. Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater Dress, £445
  2. Cashmere Dress with a Belt, £495
  3. Block Stripe Mini Dress, £290
  4. Colourblock Jumper, £325

To try some of the pieces on in UK, head for Harvey Nichols, it is stocked at all branches. Otherwise check the websites for stockist or shop online here.

Spring/Summer 12 Trend Alert: Scarf Print

February 5, 2012 § 1 Comment

Ever since the Spring/Summer 12 catwalk for D&G it was obvious that scarf print will become a major trend for the season. It was not just a few pieces in any collection, it was the domineering theme of the last ever D&G collection before it gets absorbed into Dolce and Gabbana (making it a super brand). The Italian duo put a lot of work in to makes sure the line goes out with a bang: vibrant, sexy, very youthful and trend-setting, this is exactly how we will remember D&G.

Yet scarf print is not new, Versace and Etro are two brands that most closely have been associated with it for years, but thanks to D&G the print is back and it’s big, migrating it out of my grandma’s closet and to the wish lists of all fashionistas. Below are the classics-gone-youthful from Versace and Etro, the pricey way to go about this hot trend.

  1. Versace Scarf Print Silk Satin Mini Dress, £465
  2. Versace Barocco Silk Printed Shirt, £745
  3. Etro Printed Skirt, £320
  4. Etro Silk Dress, £810
  5. Versace Venetian Print Silk Shirt, £745
  6. Etro Paisley Cardigan, £550

But as always I am a firm believer that you don’t have to break the bank to get on board with the latest trend. High street has already caught up with the designers and produced a wide range of scarf print pieces – below is my selection. And if you dare, do mix the prints and colours up in the outfit – clashing is so in!

  1. River Island Blue Scarf Print Bomber Jacket, £40
  2. River Island Pink Scarf Print Playsuit, £18
  3. River Island Orange Raised Front Maxi Skirt, £45
  4. Topshop Moto Baroque Hotpants, £34
  5. Topshop Scarf Print Shirt, £40
  6. Topshop Scarf Priny Leggings, £20
  7. Zara Printed Blouse With Scarf, £29.99
  8. Miso Scarf Print Bralet, £15
  9. Zara Printed Blazer With Scarf, £59.99

Joe’s Jeans

February 1, 2012 § Leave a comment

Whenever I find a pair of jeans that fits me perfectly, I can not resist purchasing it in different colours as finding the right pair is always such a pain – a process which should be avoided at all costs! Yet most of the time my choice is limited to black, dark blue, light blue and possibly grey if I’m extremely lucky. But the recent trends have taken denim to all new colour levels: yellow, pink and red jeans are turning into staples. That’s where Joe’s Jeans come in: imagine having your favourite pair of jeans in 55 colours? And for the summer your perfect pair of denim shorts in 55 shades? How has no one though of building the brand specifically based on colour choice of denim before, is my question!  Get your perfect pair of jeans for $158 and short for $128 online or got to 4th Floor in Harrods to see them for yourself.

See the whole range and all those 55 shades here.

Victoria by Victoria Beckham: Fresh and Exciting

January 31, 2012 § 1 Comment

Victoria Beckham has over the years grown into quite a fashion mogul. And just as many successful high end brands (think Prada and Miu Miu, Dolce and Gabanna and D&G) she created a more affordable sister brand Victoria by Victoria Beckham. Indeed the line is not just chronologically younger but is made for a younger audience too: it is girly and sweet with turned down sex appeal compared to the main Victoria Beckham brand.

The Scallop dress above from Spring/Summer 12 collection represents the line very well and hense is loved by celebrities: Victoria Beckham herself, Michelle Williams and Celine Buckens (actress from War Horse, soon to be big) have all picked it for a public outing. And while I love Michelle’s and Celine’s accessories that keep the girly theme going, it’s Victoria herself who in my opinion wears it the best – with tougher platform heels and a bag to match. However you style it, this dress is My Fashion Wish List-worthy, and so is a lot of items in the collection. Victoria has indeed done well – time to add her career to my wish list.

The dress is yours for £595, who said Victoria Beckham’s ‘affordable’ means the same thing to us?

Central Saint Martins is an amazing institution – so many talented young designers come out of its doors and go on to revolutionise the rules of fashion. The collection is so fresh and trendy that each and every piece deserves a place on My Fashion Wish List. With a few pastel pieces (pastels are the hottest thing this season – read more here), faux leather and floor-length gowns, it is time to get some Three Floor into your wardrobe. The brand is going to be BIG, mark my words!
