Taste the Sunshine

April 12, 2012 § Leave a comment

I don’t know if that’s just me, but I get terribly affected by weather. Hence as much as I love London, I am hardly ever satisfied with weather conditions. Right now it is April and it feels like we already had our summer, a glorious week of sun and warmth at the end of March when I managed to get a tan by sitting out on the terrace, and now we are back in miserable grey autumn. So right now, Londoners more than anyone need a reminder that we are indeed in Spring Summer season. And I found the way to do so with help from Lanvin Jewellery:  Palm Earrings (£300) are ideal way to feel all summery! There will be a few of you who would not like those earrings just because they are not symmetrical, but I believe that is what makes them fun: break the rules and feel free! Isn’t it exactly what summer is about?

(Well, OK, maybe I am reading way too much into Palm and Pearl combination but forgive me for trying to brighten the mood under the grey skies. Someone is in need of urgent holiday…)

The New Swimsuit

April 9, 2012 § Leave a comment

Happy Easter everyone! Have you been enjoying 4 days off? I definitely have been – getting together with friends, lounging around at home with my boyfriend, catching up on unseen films and favourite TV series and of course big Easter Sunday Roast (I was invited to attend, you would never see me making one myself, my kitchen skills are below average). And while I am in London for my 4 days off, some others managed to escape the city and head for far away beach destinations. Hence I was inspired to check out the hottest swimwear of the season and straight away went for my old favourite We Are Handsome, a brand famous for their photo-printed swimwear which appeared on my blog numerous times. And they did not disappoint – see my picks of one pieces below!

  1. £225
  2. £210
  3. £185
  4. £205

But not only did We Are Handsome not disappoint, they also started a trend for photo-printed swimwear after many celebrities including Rihanna were seen wearing their designs. Wildfox has a range of them now including a cat printed one piece, Topshop featured a few pieces online that will be available at the end of the month (exciting!) and finally ASOS providing items inspired by We Are Famous with an affordable price tag. Check out my selection of swimsuits from ASOS below and go on to their website to see many in bikini versions.

  1. Digital Beach Sean Cut Out Bandeau Suit, £40
  2. Palm Print Swimsuit, £35
  3. Cut Out Suit in Palm Print, was £40 now £32
  4. Palm Print Swimsuit, was £40 now £32

Mango Maxis

The spring has sprung. Hence it is time to find spring buys that can help once and for all leave the wintery outfits behind and recharge our wardrobes. This time I turn to Mango for help updating the skirt selection. I have spoken volumes about midi pleated skirts a few weeks ago (read more here) but it does not mean we have to wave goodbye to pleats of different lengths. Maxis are still full on trend this season so I found four perfect spring must-haves by Mango.

1 and 3 (£44.99) are perfect to add the pastel trend to your wardrobe – wear them by day with your favourite cotton tee or combine with complementing pastel colour silk tops and statement necklaces for totally fashionable evening wear.
2 (£39.99) is a total find – this is the rock chic solution to spring romanticism: black with leathery finish yet strangely feminine, you wont regret this buy.
4 (£49.99) has a denim feel to it yet is light and perfect even for the hottest day of the year – match with your favourite Converse or Superga trainers for a sporty feel.

United Nude

An architect, Rem Koolhaas and 7th generation shoe maker, Galahad Clark teamed up in 2003 to create a a new brand of shoes. Unsurprisingly the creations are not simple shoes – they are very much inspired by architecture and interior design making them the most unique and super desirable shoes currently on the market. Indeed they are so desirable the concept took off immediately: now you can find United Nude store is 40 countries (visit one in Londons’s Covent Garden for a closer look at the brand).

  1. 90 Degrees Sandals, £405 – they look fragile but feel incredibly strong and apparently extremely comfortable!
  2. Eamz Pump, £215 – Rem took inspiration from Charles and Ray Eames chair creation, as you do…
  3. Web Hi, £400 – designers turned to miraculous nature creation spider web for inspiration!
  4. Flame Rivet, £390 – true architectural fantasy, is it just me or do you see something of a staircase here too?

The Studded Dress Syndrome

April 1, 2012 § 1 Comment

It started of with Versace Spring Summer 12 fashion show – tightly fitted gold studded dresses paraded up and down the catwalk. And when Donatella emerged at the end of the show wearing one of those herself fashion world knew this would be a new must have.  The first to be caught up in the spread of the micro trend were celebrities – Katy Perry and Nicole Kidman showed off their sex appeal in white creations. But Versace influence on the trend was not over: when collaborating with H&M a much more affordable range of studded figure hugging items emerged and even more people signed up to the trend.

And now those that did not get their hands on Versace or Versace for H&M studded pieces have been given another chance: River Island created a more affordable range of dresses inspired by original Versace designs. I’m in!

  1. Black Studded Dress, £30
  2. White Studded Dress, £50
  3. White Studded Dress, £30
  4. Black Studded Dress, £50

Whether you are a fan of London based reality show Made in Chelsea or not, there is one thing everyone will agree on – Millie Mackintosh is gorgeous. In fact so gorgeous that after seeing her model the new range of Lipsy VIP dresses I could not wait to get my hands on them: I am once again excited about Lipsy creations, and that has not happened for over a 6 months! Pinky Swear

March 27, 2012 § Leave a comment

The fashion world this seasons swears by pink handbags: both designer and high street items in the girliest of colours have flooded the market. I could not help but wonder why? (Just had to use Carrie Bradshaw’s favourite quote, excitement for Sex and the City prequel Carrie’s Diaries is in the air.) Maybe they are just giving consumers exactly what they want – a colourful and hopeful break from daily worries that have been brought on us with this long-lasting economic crisis. Maybe it is simply an outcome of different shades of pink proving suitable for two of the biggest seasonal trends: pastel and bright colours. Maybe 2012 is all about love (let’s just assume pink is the colour that represents love) since the rumored apocalypse is looming and we need to find shelter in the most meaningful of feelings. Or maybe we should stop reading into it and enjoy our childhood’s favourite colour making a big comeback to a fashion scene. Below I picked out the most desirable pink handbags to suit any budget for you to enjoy!

Cocktail Rings

March 26, 2012 § 1 Comment

Since Yves Saint Laurent released the Arty cocktail rings range they have become instantly recognisable and truly covetable   pieces of jewellery. There has hardly been one celebrity which wasn’t at some point seen wearing one. Indeed the cult following included: Kylie Minogue who was wearing it on her Aphrodite tour, Kim Kardashian sporting it at the make up launch and Alexa Chung demonstrating it at a photoshoot (with matching nail polish – fab!).

This season YSL extended the range of enamel and gold plated rings further with new colours and materials. I love both the depth of some enamels – looking like they might be some precious stones sent to us interterrestrially – and the monocolour shine of others. My favourite picks below range from £135 to £165. The thing is, whichever colour you pick, the arty ring is a real investment: it has been popular season after season and has moved from ‘trend’ to ‘classic’ category making it the most desirable cocktail ring out there.

Based on the success of YSL arty rings, this season has a whole range of oversized cocktail rings from other brands waiting to steal some fans from the established favourite. Many undercut arty ring in price but some aim higher with beautiful designer creations. See my selection below  – are you ready to swap a YSL classic with new season favourite?

  1. House of Harlow 1960 Sunburst Ring, £51
  2. House of Harlow 1960 Stone & Crystal Ring, was £83 now £58 (asos)
  3. House of Harlow 1960 Sun Ring, was £84 now £41 (asos)
  4. Erickson Beamon Safari Ring, £195
  5. Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal Ring, £55
  6. Monica Vinader Set of Three Stacking Rings, £280
  7. Kenneth Jay Lane Resin Ring, £65
