Olivia Palermo Style For You

December 7, 2011 § Leave a comment

Who does not love Olivia Palermo? This young, beautiful and oh-so-fashionable New York socialite took the world by storm to become the hottest entry in every best dressed list. Everyone wants to be her, let alone dress like her. That is why it is so terribly exciting that Olivia has edited Topshop holiday season collection to select the items she absolutely loves. And now we get to buy them knowing we got the approval of Miss Palermo herself.

Above are a just a few items from her selection that I absolutely love:

Purple Velvet Harness Corset, £30. Planet Flared Heel Platform Moccasins, £95. Floppy Boy Fedora, £25. Half Moon Cross Body Bag, £28. Knitted Gold Beaded Dress, £110. Possess Studded Ankle Boots, £150.

Shoe Collection by Cheryl Cole

December 6, 2011 § 1 Comment

As I have mentioned before in the blog post about shoe collection by Rachel Bilson, Cheryl Cole’s shoe line was about to be unveiled. And here it is.

I was very excited – I absolutely adore Cheryl and her style. I love how she inspired the nation to follow her Big Hair trend, how she changed her look recently to appear more modern by dying he locks honey blond and cutting them short, how she dresses up her petite figure and can pull of anything, I bet even a potato sack.

BUT when I actually saw the collection I was quite disappointed – I expected the glitz and the glamour since that is what people love about Cheryl and want to get a piece of in day to day life. I also expected something unique and extraordinary like Cheryl herself – there is only one national sweetheart and buying a shoe which is marketed as a piece of Cheryl should feel special. But most importantly I expected the quality: if I was Cheryl I would not put my name on anything that did not look well made, and frankly the shoes don’t.

The collection has a few party shoes, the ones above Glam Slam Disco Ball actually make models feet look over-sized due to thin straps and thick heel and platform. A few Autumn/Winter shoe boots are also present but I’m not a fan: I can see that Freak Le Chic boots were inspired by Prada, but I can not imagine the Black and Red strap boots looking good with anything. The only shoes that are worth checking out are Byker Groove Mucky Puppy Boot in brown and T.L.C. flat boots with cuff detail. Those would be good for trip to the country side or to add to your weekend wardrobe, but this is not the designs Cheryl should be promoting – this is her off duty look and hardly many people want to buy Cheryl Cole boots they will wear in their garden.

And the last negative point goes out to people who came up with names of the boots. Funky Munky, Hot to Trot and Your Royal Hotness are just some of the examples of outrageously cheap sounding names. In my eyes a shoe collection by Cheryl should be more classy than that!

So altogether a massive disappointment. My message to Cheryl: we still love you but please next time try collaborating with someone who really understands what image you should be projecting.

Go see it for yourself at stylistpick.com.

End of rant.

Vogue’s Online Fashion Week

December 6, 2011 § Leave a comment

The grey December week has suddenly become super exciting! All thanks to Vogue Online Fashion Week.

A blog based fashion even lasting a week provides us with discounts from major retailers as well as free gifts, competitions, interesting blog posts by designers and celebrities many of which include Christmas Wishlists and much more. There is literally no better place to start your Christmas shopping! But by far the best thing is the cause behind the project – every time you shop at the participating stores money is donated to charity of your choice. Most fantastic fashion+charity idea for a while? I think so!

For example today you could get discounts on Jigsaw, Prada Jewellery and Jaeger; win limited edition of Mulberry bag, Kurt Geiger shopping spree or a chance to be the first to shop Marni for H&M; get a free Elle Macpherson candle when purchasing products from Intimates range on harrods.com; get advice from Alice Temperley and Ted Baker…

All you have to do is go to http://www.vogue.co.uk to see what experience you can build yourself with this exciting project. Come back and share!

Shoe Collection by Rachel Bilson

December 4, 2011 § 3 Comments

My favourite The OC actress has gained a designer status. For a few years now Rachel Bilson was on every best dressed list and finally she is putting her fashion knowledge into creating a shoe line.

But this project is different: the process of purchasing is not what you are used too. To access the online shop you have to fill in a questionnaire that determines your style. But do not worry, it is easy – all you have to do is decide what picture is more ‘you’ and after less than a minute you are on the results page. Here is where you can shop the shoe range – but not all results are shown, only those that suit your style.

This interesting concept is already adopted by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen T-shirt line, Jessica Simpson Beauty range and soon to be adopted by our own Cheryl Cole – she is unveiling her shoe collection on 6th December (more of which in the later blog post). I am not 100% sure I am ready to shop only the pre-selected range, but nevertheless I am ready to give it a go.

Above is my favourite shoe from the collection –  The Pauline in Wine Suede. And the price – $79.99 (about £50).

One Stop Shop: Christmas Party at French Connection

December 2, 2011 § Leave a comment

Christmas is 22 days away and if you have not picked you dress yet, it is time to hit the shops!

I must admit more that one item from my holiday wardrobe over the last three years came from French Connection. There is something about their dress collection that ticks all the right boxes: highest quality, feminine shapes, beautiful colours and tons of sequins!

The range this year is as always impressive – if you do not find at least one dress that you feel like you must add to your wardrobe I envy you and your self control. Especially now that some dresses are discounted by up to 50%.

Here are my top picks. I struggled cutting down to 3 dresses, especially since some of them are available in different colours.

1. Silver Samantha Sequin Dress, £165. Nothing says party as much as sequin. Be daring, hit the dance floor and shine like a star (literally).

2. Aztec Drape Maxi Dress, currently on sale and is £ 144. For the most elegant of parties. Channel your Grecian goddess by adding gold bangles and putting your hair up. Best choice for pear shaped readers.

3. Spotlight Knit Cap Sleeve Dress, £115. Available in red, baby pink and mercury grey. The shape and texture is inspired by Herve Leger dresses, but unlike many other copies, the quality here is outstanding. Try it on and see how it hides all your ‘problem areas’ and highlight all the curves! Possibly the best dress ever.

Go online to http://www.frenchconnection.com and see the rest of collection for yourself. Come back and let me know what you are wearing this holiday season!

Not Your Usual Skinny Jeans

November 29, 2011 § 2 Comments

It is cold outside and I bet many of you ditched the skirts and resort to your favourite skinnies on daily basis. But I’m here to remind you that wearing jeans should not be mundane and boring – especially not this season!

Topshop is leading the fashion pack of high street retailers by spoiling you for choice: not only are there different colours to choose from, Topshop has been playing with textures hence you can get oh-so-fabulous wet look jeans or even a shiny coated ones!

Here is my top three pairs of jeans by Moto at Topshop you have to add to your wardrobe to spice up your winter (pictured above):

1. Moto Wet Look Coated Skinny Jeans in Burgundy, £40

2. Moto Gem Studded Skinny Jeans in Ecru, £70

3. Moto Coated Leigh Skinny Jeans in Pink, £50 (worn by Amelia Lily on Saturday’s X Factor – love that girl and love matching jeans to hair colour)

Let’s not fall into wearing mundane clothes! ‘Break the mold!’ (As the VO5 adverts state, about hair styling products in their case, but applicable here nevertheless, I hope).

But if you are not ready to step out in colour (I am not judging, maybe next winter?) here is some advise on your more conventionally coloured skinnies. For indigo/black/grey jeans from high street have a look around River Island. I have never been a big fan of their denim collections until recently, but now my wardrobe is filled with multiple colour version of the same style – it just fits right!

nOIr

November 28, 2011 § Leave a comment

TaDa! I have a new jewellery obsession and this time it is from US.  nOIr is an American jewellery label which caught my eye with its beautiful rings. My favourite is an elaborate design of Gotham City ($225) pictured above. But I also can not take my eyes of Russian Dolls and multicoloured crystal rings featuring various animals($50 – $300). See the whole range on the nOIr website (www.noirjewelry.com).

Highest quality and fun designs – what more can we want? That is why it is a shame there is very limited availability of nOIr in UK. I managed to find beautiful gold bangles on http://www.spoiledbrat.com. They are engraved with a choice of “I AM SUPERGIRL” or “THE ORIGINAL” and are currently sold with a 70% discount making them just £24 instead of £80! Let me know if you come across any other pieces!

Collars Are Still IN

November 26, 2011 § Leave a comment

Especially if they are designed by Ericson Beamon. I have a massive crush on his jewellery designs – always colourful, big and ready to make a statement. And I absolutely love his range for Urban Outfitters – especially the collars (no surprise there, I have been a massive collar fan since the beginning of the trend).

Those two beauties are not your usual peter pan sequin collars – they are edgy and will turn any outfit into a rocking ensemble. Wear with plain outfits to ensure the collars attract the most attention – black or white shirts will do the trick!

Both leather collars – Stone and Spike are available from http://www.urbanoutfitters.com for £175. Check out other items from the collaboration, especially the irresistible Stone Cuff, £88.

Welcome to the Zoo

Furry animal hats and hoods are everywhere. It is hard to pin point the inspiration for the animal shaped headgear, but nevertheless those pieces of furry cuteness are the way forward this winter. Started by US brand Spirit Hoods who claim you are transformed when you put it on, the hoods have been adopted by a whole range of celebrities – Justin Bieber, Kesha, Jessie J and Pink to name a few.

While you can grab yourself an original Spirit Hood, you can also go for (more wearable in my opinion) versions, which I absolutely love, as shown on the pictures above:

1. ASOS Faux Fur Bunny Ear Hat, £25

2. River Island Black Faux Fur Hat, £18

3. Sauce Mickey Ears Hat, £40

Bring out the inner animal in you!

Twillight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 Premier Fashion

November 23, 2011 § 1 Comment

First of all let me just say – I am a big Twilight Saga fan. But when it comes to fashion choices of the actors – I am slightly more critical.

As you probably noticed I do not usually comment on celebrity style, there are plenty of blogs that do that. But rules are there to be broken – hence here goes my styling analysis of the outfits three main actresses of the saga wore to the premiers. The reason why I believe it fits into my blog is that it is definitely on My Fashion Wishlist to dress up for a red carpet event, especially if I get to have the choice of gowns the lucky girls above get.

Kristen Stewart wore black lacy Roberto Cavalli and blue sequin J Mendel to London and New York Premiers and while the dresses looked absolutely fabulous and so did Kristen’s luminescent white skin, I have not seen anyone look that awkward in high heels on red carpet for a while. I understand the whole ‘lets-rebel-against-fame’ thing, but please Kristen learn how to walk in heels as it is very disrespectful to the designer (and your stylist who probably cries each night into her pillow) to put Nike sneakers on red carpets after sucking it up for 5 minutes only.

Nikki Reed opted for pale green Marchesa and neon Michael Kors. She looked too old for her age in the Marchesa but was stunning in futuristic cut out gown. Dressing for your age is vital – you are young and beautiful only once!

Ashley Green wore custom made Donna Karan gowns for both events. While asymmetric cut out gown made Ashley stand out, her second outfit was another disappointment – red full length dress made her look shapeless and added a few kilograms to petit Ashley due to asymmetric fabric folds.

There is one more film to go and hopefully after 4 practice runs the fashion on the premier of the final installment of the saga will tick all the right boxes. Chances are we won’t see Kristen in a dress before that anyway.
